Waseda University Adopts Fuji Xerox's Video Indexing Technology, TalkMiner, in Its Platform for Open Classes

TOKYO, February 25, 2014 — TalkMiner, a video indexing technology of Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd., was adopted in Japanese Waseda University's platform for on-line open classes—the Waseda Course Channel that has been released today.

TalkMiner analyzes videos online to identify unique slide images and builds a search index from words on those presentation slides, thereby enabling searches of videos without any metadata. Targeting lecture videos on the Web, TalkMiner is capable of searching specific scenes within videos that contain key words by simply entering the words and clicking the search button.

By adopting Fuji Xerox's unique technology, Waseda University enables the Waseda Course Channel users to instantly search and browse not only videos that contain designated key words, but also specific scenes in the videos in which the key words appear, from many lecture videos published by the University.

As a video delivery platform, the Waseda Course Channel adopts OPSIGATE, a comprehensive web-based content management and delivery system provided by Sony Business Solutions Corporation, and its system has been established by NEC Corporation.

Utilizing information and communication technology, the Waseda Course Channel is a platform to publish the University's lectures throughout Japan and internationally, visualizing the concept of "Waseda as an advanced educational institution". Through this platform, videos that introduce lectures offered at Waseda University, on-demand lecture videos, lecture materials and other contents are presented to preparatory students who are interested in the University's educational programs, guardians, graduates and the general public.

Waseda University currently offers approximately 60 lecture contents and intends to increase them to approximately 1,000 by the end of March 2014. In addition, its Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies plans to provide videos that introduce all lectures offered by the full-time teaching staff through the Waseda Course Channel in spring 2014.

Talk Miner, Video Indexing Technology is developed by Fuji Xerox's U.S.-based affiliate, FX Palo Alto Laboratory, Inc.
