Fuji Xerox Launches New Software toManage Operations and Costs in Print Environment

TOKYO, November 4, 2009 — Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. developed the ApeosWare Management Suite, an integrated software to manage operations of multifunction devices and printers. The sale starts on November 30.

In addition to offering several standalone applications^{Note 1}, the ApeosWare Management Suite has integrated them with following functions into one software: the device control function for centrally setting and regularly updating user information for multifunction devices and printers; the user management function for regulating the number of printouts for individual and group users; the log management function for accurately identifying who produced how many printouts and when; and the print management function for selecting available device to print.

Only one server is required for print management instead of setting up multiple servers all running different application software, which would slash both costs and CO₂ emissions. In addition, the ApeosWare Management Suite reduces time and effort for print management, and allows users to concentrate on their core work by (1) using a common database for managing user and device information eliminating the needs to manage information by each application, and (2) achieving a consistent operation interface with a web browser-based shared login screen.

In addition to the Standard Edition for workgroup environment, the product comes in a Professional Edition, which enables a robust architecture for large-scale customers. It can not only be run on a single server, but also supports a distributed server setting for print management, or the configuration of main and backup servers for user management to prevent service interruption even at the time of a system fault. Even in a printing environment linking multifunction devices with an enterprise system, which would become severely affected in the event of a system failure, the Professional Edition offers stable service, handling high-volume and high-load printing as well as large-scale user/device management.

By around spring of 2010, the ApeosWare Management Suite will also run on English, Korean and Chinese (traditional and simplified) versions of the Windows^® operating system targeting Asia and Oceania regions. Allowing users to centrally manage devices at domestic as well as overseas offices, the integrated software is suitable for companies operating globally.

The product's standard screens acquired Color Universal Design certification issued by Color Universal Design Organization (CUDO), an incorporated nonprofit organization.

Note 1

The applications include: ApeosWare Device Management for setting, managing and monitoring multifunction devices and printers; ApeosWare Authentication Management for user authentication and controlling usage; ApeosWare Log Management for collecting print job logs and summarizing them; and ApeosWare Print Management for building and managing a print environment. Each application can be installed as standalone software.

ApeosWare Device Management 1.0 Standard Edition is free software and therefore has no server license charge. It also does not require device licenses. Note that separate setup service and annual support contract are available for initial introduction and maintenance.

For the Standard Edition, a single license allows to install the product on a single server.

To run ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0 Professional Edition, users need the Suite's server license as well as ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0 Professional DB Basic License, which is a database license for Microsoft^® SQL Server^® 2008 Standard Edition, for each PC server. In case the server for installing Microsoft^® SQL Server^® 2008 Standard Edition contains more than one CPU, multiple ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0 Professional DB Additional CPU Licenses will be necessary as many as the CPUs. This database license is only available for use with ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0 Professional Edition, and cannot be sold as a standalone license.

The Professional Edition Server License allows installation on one server only. However, in the case of a distributed or redundant system set up within the same office, the software can be installed on up to two servers.

In case the distributed or redundant system involves more than the number of servers described in Note 2, Professional Edition Additional Server License is necessary for each of any subsequent servers.

Note

ApeosWare Authentication Management Output Quota Option 1.0 License is a common option for both the Standard Edition and Professional Edition. A single license allows installation of the product on a single server.

Note

ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0 Device License is a common device license for all ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0 applications as well as the Standard Edition and Professional Edition. A device license will be necessary for each of the devices (multifunction device, printer, scanner) to be used in combination with any of the applications in ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0.

Licenses for ApeosWare Management Suite 1.0 do not include installation media.

In addition to the above, there are academic licenses for educational institutions defined in the School Education Law and other educational organizations, and transitional licenses for the users of ApeosWare Authentication Agent, ApeosWare Accounting Service, ApeosWare Device Portal Service, DocuHouse On-Demand Print and PrintXchange On-Demand Print.
