Fuji Xerox Drives Comprehensive Environmental Impact ReductionSolutions With Industry Leading Energy Saving Product Lineup

TOKYO, July 21, 2009 — Fuji Xerox Co. Ltd. will launch eight models of full-color digital multifunction devices for offices on August 28, 2009: four models in the ApeosPort-IV series^{Note 1}, and four models in the DocuCentre-IV series^{Note 2}. The new products incorporate new environmental technologies to lower Typical Electricity Consumption (TEC)^{Note 3}, a key factor in receiving ENERGY STAR status, by 75 percent^{Note 4} compared to a previous model to 2.44 kilowatt-hour^{Note 5}, achieving industry leading^{Note 6} energy saving performance.

True to its Ecology and Safety Vision formulated in 1999, Fuji Xerox strives to be a world leader in contributing to the environmental conservation of customers and society. Besides helping customers visualize the environmental impact of their offices and operations, as well as providing them with value and utility such as improved productivity, it offers a Green Office Program as a comprehensive solution for reducing environmental impact through saving energy, space and resource. By developing the highly energy saving products announced today, Fuji Xerox contributes to the creation of office environments with less environmental impact.

Major eco-features include the following:

1. IH (induction heating) fusing technology^{Note 7}: The newly developed fusing device incorporates an IH belt containing the world's thinnest nonmagnetic metal with a thickness of microns (one micron=0.001mm), which heats up quickly. Thereby the fusing device does not have to be preheated, achieving zero power consumption when not printing, and the world's fastest startup time of three seconds^{Note 8}.
2. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are used as the light sources for image scanning as well as for the exposure unit of the print engine. Traditionally, LED use for multifunction devices was considered difficult due to fluctuations in the amount of light resulting in unevenness in color density. By applying light diffusion technology to achieve light source uniformity, as well as the technology that adjusts the light color by each device, Fuji Xerox has realized stable image quality in scanning, while allowing energy saving with a use of LED.
3. The energy-efficient EA-Eco Toner is adopted for the first time in products for office use. Its fusing temperature is lower by approximately 20 degrees Celsius compared to conventional EA toner, cutting power use in fusing by around 15 percent.

In addition to the above three technologies, the modified controller of a multifunction device has reduced power use in a sleep mode to around one-sixth^{Note 9} that of a previous model.

Drawing on years of Fuji Xerox expertise in document management, the Green Office Program not only reduces the environmental impact of customer offices but also contributes to overall lowering of security risk and total cost of operations. With Fuji Xerox's new product lineup, customers can anticipate less environmental impact from both product and way-of-use aspects.

In addition to energy saving, the new lineup has achieved greater convenience. With the IH fusing technology, certain models reboot from a sleep mode to a fully operational state in less than 10 seconds^{Note 10}, around 78 percent^{Note 11} shorter than a previous model , reducing the wait time for copying, faxing or printing from a low power mode, resulting in higher work efficiency.

Starting with this series, Fuji Xerox applied a new design that allocates blue to the central portion, user operation areas, to naturally guide users there. The design also makes it easy to identify printout. The control panel uses an 8.5-inch WVGA (wide video graphics array) color TFT (thin-film transistor) screen for high-definition display, improving visibility, and is angled so it can be used readily even from a wheelchair. The display makes extensive use of graphics, with large buttons and text to minimize operational errors from pressing the wrong button or other confusion.
