Fuji Xerox's Recycling Site in ChinaSimultaneously ObtainsISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 Certifications

TOKYO, March 23, 2009 — Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.^{Note 1}, a recycling site in China wholly owned by Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd., on February 26, 2009 obtained ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001^{Note 2} certifications at the same time. This marks the first time that an affiliate of Fuji Xerox has simultaneously obtained three certifications.

Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) constructed an integrated recycling system in China and commenced operation in January 2008 with the aim of achieving “zero landfill,” “no pollution” and “no illegal disposal.” In April 2008, the recycling site launched activities to simultaneously obtain ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certifications under the company policy to establish multi-faceted functions encompassing quality, environment and occupational safety in an integrated manner.

To achieve this, Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) has made efforts to build a consistent basic management system that involves standardization of quality assurance including trouble tracking system, maintenance of chemical goods management guidelines, and aligning CO₂ reduction target, sharing know-how and experience of Fuji Xerox manufacturing sites in Japan as well as those in China (Fuji Xerox of Shanghai Ltd. and Fuji Xerox of Shenzhen Ltd.). Regarding the system for recycling and reuse of resources, which is the key means by which the Chinese recycling site contributes to environmental protection, a project team conducted detailed research on Chinese legislation and regulation to establish a corresponding management structure. In addition, the team standardized procedures of separation and weight measurement of waste, which is the base of zero emissions, introduced an IT-based process control system, as well as thoroughly identified sources of hazards by evaluating the manufacturing environment, production method and facilities. As a result, Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) was able to obtain the three certifications^{Note 3} in a matter of just one year following its inauguration in January 2008.

As a responsible manufacturer, Fuji Xerox is working to achieve its targets of “zero landfill,” “no pollution” and “no illegal disposal,” and is making steady efforts in China to establish a balance between quality, the environment and safety in its business activities. The certifications demonstrate that the company's efforts in this regard are understood and valued in China. Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) was also certified by the Suzhou City Government as a Pilot Enterprise for Suzhou's Recycling Economy in December 2008.

Fuji Xerox will continue to reinforce and promote its resource recycling system^{Note 4}, which is an advanced model for balancing business operations with resource saving and environmental friendliness, striving to realize a sustainable society.

Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing (Suzhou) completely disassembles and recycles used products including copy/multifunction devices and cartridges recovered from all over China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) by Fuji Xerox (China) Ltd., Fuji Xerox's sales company in China. The recycling site commenced operation in January 2008, has the capacity to disassemble and recycle 15,000 devices and 500,000 cartridges per year, and aims to achieve recycling rates of more than 96 percent for devices and 99 percent for cartridges by the end of March 2009.

As one of its corporate social responsibility efforts, Fuji Xerox formulated a product recycling policy in 1995 that promotes resource-recycling aiming at zero landfill, and achieved zero landfill of used products in Japan in August 2000. In December 2004, Fuji Xerox established an integrated recycling system based in Thailand that recovers used products from nine countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific area to achieve zero landfill in the region.
