Enabling Secure Access to Corporate E-mail Accounts, Documents and Intranet via Mobile Phones
Fujifilm Corporation
Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd
TOKYO, February 23, 2009 — Fujifilm Corporation and Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. today launch their new “beat Keitai Remote Service,” which gives users outside the office secure access to work e-mails and attachments, corporate file servers and intranets from their mobile phone. The service allows users to view, modify and print out documents and contents.
Based on Fuji Xerox's “beat/basic Service”, which provides low cost IT infrastructure with solid security countermeasures including firewalls and anti-virus protection to small and mid-sized enterprises, the new beat Keitai Remote Service combines it with the Keitai Remote service, which incorporates high-resolution, high-speed document viewer technologyNote 1 newly developed by Fujifilm, to offer a new document solution for mobile phones. The Keitai Remote automatically converts various document types into the image most suitable for the screen of the handset from which the user is accessing the information.
In recent years, demand for convenient information-sharing solutions for corporate employees is increasing, especially from sales staff and other non-office based workers needing to boost their work efficiency. At the same time, corporations are under more pressure to enhance security and avoid leakage of personal and confidential information, resulting in stricter rules about removing information from office environments.
With the Keitai Remote viewer that is compatible with various document formats,Note 2 users can access corporate file servers and groupware ASP serviceNote 3 managed by the beat/basic Service from their mobile phones to view documents such as proposals and estimates. Because the service is compatible with handsets sold by Japan's three mobile phone carriers (NTT docomo, au by KDDI and SoftBank), the previously difficult task of converting an image to be viewable on a specific handset is conducted on the server, allowing for high-resolution and speedy display of documents. The risk of information leakage, as in the case of the handset being lost, is also reduced using the beat Keitai Remote Service under a thin client model whereby images can be displayed without being downloaded to the phone. In addition, users can print documents at multifunction devices installed at Seven-Eleven convenience stores across Japan using Fuji Xerox's Net Print service, improving work efficiency.
With the new service that improves the security and usability of mobile networks, Fujifilm and Fuji Xerox reassert their commitment to continue to offer an expanding range of goods and services to help businesses improve performance by combining their own technologies.
