HONG KONG, February 2, 2009 — Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong) Ltd.,
a sales company of Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd., won the Environmental Performance Award at the 2008 Hong Kong Awards for Industries, organized by Trade and Industry Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. The award recognized the company’s longstanding dedication to the pursuit and implementation of environment-conscious initiatives, which are reflected throughout the company’s operations and in their customer offerings. Joseph Yu, managing director of Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong), received the award on January 21 at the Awards Presentation Ceremony.
Comprising of seven categoriesNote 1, the 2008 Hong Kong Awards for Industries started in 2005Note 2 to recognize the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong enterprises in their move towards higher technology and higher value-added activities, and received 245 entries in all categories this year. Fulfilling the stringent requirements of the award including on-site assessment, Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong) became the first in the industry to win this government-supported award.
“We are exceptionally pleased that Fuji Xerox has been recognized for our comprehensive efforts in leading and improving eco-conscious operations, activities and products that emphasize respect for the environment,” Yu said. “Our objective is to ensure we continually create greener document and office solutions, adding value not just to our customers but to our society as a whole. ”
Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong) established its Environmental Management Committee in 2003, with a series of targets and programs to facilitate the implementation of green strategies at all levels. The Committee monitors, reviews and improves the company's Environmental Management System, including launching the green purchasing initiative to ensure the company's suppliers also comply with environmental performance standards.
Major achievements that allowed Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong) to receive the honor include:
- As a part of the International Resource Recycling SystemNote 3, the company recovers used machines and cartridges from customers to be recycled at a recycling facility in Thailand.
- By using energy-saving light tubes, controlling air conditioning in its warehouses and implementing gasoline saving competitions, Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong) reduced its overall gas and electricity consumption by 10 percent in 2007 on a year-to-year comparison, which overachieved the target.
- The company helps its customers reduce CO2 emission and energy consumption by optimizing their office environment with eco-products and solutions.
- Compliance to key green legislation including the RoHS Directive since March 2005.
- Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong) acquired the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification in 2003 and also the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody (CoC)Note 4 Certification in 2007.
Fuji Xerox and its all affiliates both in Japan and other countries/regions continue to proactively deploy environmental conscious business practices.
