Fuji Xerox Begins Sales of a System to Inhibit Erroneous Fax Transmission Aiming to Eliminate Human Errors

Provide Customers with Fuji Xerox’s In-House Operation System

TOKYO, March 24, 2008 — Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. will begin sales on April 14, 2008 of a system that inhibits erroneous fax transmission to realize high-level security in sending faxes.

In line with the enactment of the Personal Information Protection Act, companies have been introducing measures to bolster security. Particularly, financial institutions have to take care with caution when faxing important information such as invoices and applications, and one measure to prevent mistakes is to have two people check the fax number before sending.

The new system links Incorrect FAX Transmission Deterrence System Ver4.0 for Apeos Business Center Edition software (developed by OPRO Japan Co., Ltd.) with Fuji Xerox’s ApeosPort series, digital multifunction devices, to systemize each detailed step of the fax transmission process, which helps realize a more secure faxing environment.

Function to inhibit transmission of wrong content

Using an ApeosPort control panel screen or PC, the user chooses a pre-registered destination and specifies fax transmission. An email will then be sent to his/her approver who needs to confirm if there is no mistake in destination or content, and once it’s approved, the fax will be sent. As long as the approver has not previewed the content to be faxed, an approval for transmission cannot be given.

Function to inhibit mistakes when registering destinations

When registering a new fax number, a test fax is sent from a PC to the destination, and only once receipt has been confirmed by telephone will registration go ahead.

In line with market release, Fuji Xerox will provide a full support program that includes services to design and build the system, as well as users training.

In designing the system, Fuji Xerox’s administrative division that operates billing services conducted numerous experiments in actual fax transmissions until it realized the ideal workflow that is easy to use and eliminates human errors. This division has been making no transmission errors using the system.
